Performance Awards Scheme

The Club participates in the ASA Competitive Swimming Performance Awards Scheme.  These awards have been developed by the Amateur Swimming Association and are designed to encourage swimmers to strive and improve their swimming times by awarding badges at various levels of achievement, as the swimmer progresses.

Swimmers can achieve official times that are valid for the ASA awards in a number of different ways; including Club Time Trials, inter-club galas, internal Club galas, Club Championships, external open galas and County Championships. All individual race times are eligible for consideration for ASA Awards, but in all types of relay events only the swimmer in the first leg is eligible for consideration.

ASA awards are made at up to five levels of achievement, for various stroke/distance combinations, including individual medleys. The Performance Tables below indicate all the combinations and the times required to achieve the awards. Qualifying times are the same for boys and girls.

Swimmers who achieve the times on the Performance Tables will be able to purchase the relevant ‘Flash’ from the Club Merchandise Focal Point, and sew it onto the back of their Club ‘T-Bag’.

It should be noted that the Flashes only relate to a stroke and not to the distance over which it was achieved. This means that once a level, e.g. silver, has been achieved for, say, breaststroke at 50m, a further achievement of silver at, say, 100m breaststroke does not result in another Flash.

As a Club we do keep a detailed record of all swimmers’ personal best (PB) times and all Award achievements, at all combinations of stroke and distance. Any new PBs and Award achievements are published with the results of each of the Club galas and other Club events on the Club notice board after each such event.  It is left to each swimmer to check their achievements and request the appropriate Flash.

Edenbridge Piranhas Platinum Club

In addition to the ASA Award Scheme, the Club also runs the Piranhas Platinum Club Awards. The Piranhas Platinum Club evolved to encourage the more advanced swimmers to strive for achievements beyond the highest ASA Awards levels.  A special Platinum Club T-Bag is awarded to those swimmers who achieve Platinum Club times in one or more stokes.  Platinum Club qualifying times differ for ladies and men, and they are included in the Performance Table below.

ASA Qualifying Times

Note: Below ASA Qualifying times are shown in “minutes:seconds” format (eg “1:20” = “1 minute and 20 seconds”). However, in the PB spreadsheet that we use to process gala results, short distance times are recorded as “seconds only” (eg “80” = “80 seconds” = “1 minute and 20 seconds”).
