Edenbridge Piranhas Schedule of Galas 2011
Revision 1 - 20/3/11
Below is a schedule of the galas we are currently entered for in 2011. Please could you make a note of these dates.
There may be additional galas to those listed here so please check the notice board for updates. The list will also be updated when we confirm Venue/dates where currently noted as TBC. The relevant age levels of each gala are also noted on the schedule, an explanatory table of these age groups is shown below.
Unless otherwise noted all galas are in the evening. Approximate start time 6pm, always check individual gala list for exact time. Swimmers selected for a gala will be notified by email and by a list on the notice board. If you have not submitted an email address or have recently changed your email address please notify both Amanda Hepburn as soon as possible and please send a test email from your chosen email address to swimpiranhas@aol.com In this way your email address can be added accurately to that email account.
A list of all those “A swimmers” to be considered for the Kent Junior will be sent out to swimmers and will be on the notice board nearer the time. Swimmers chosen for these galas must indicate their availability for the relevant dates well in advance.
Each gala will have its own specific competing age groups. Swimmers can swim in an older age group but not a younger one. Age groups for galas are ages as at 31.12.2011 unless otherwise noted on the gala list. Under Kent Junior League rules you have to be at least 10 years old in this year to swim in an individual event and at least 9 years old for a relay.
The level of each gala is also indicated. A is the highest level and for which we will need to have our fastest swimmers available. B or C galas indicate a lower standard required and are aimed at the newer and less experienced swimmers. However depending on availability of swimmers we will take A level swimmers to lower standard galas and swim them up in age group. If the gala is marked as Timed, this means a “minimum time” is quoted for each event. Swimming in less than that time (i.e. swimming faster) will result in a time penalty. These galas are aimed at B/C swimmers, and allows them to compete with swimmers of a similar ability.
There will also be some Open galas organised by other Swimming clubs which are aimed at A swimmers; they usually have maximum entry level times for each event, and usually define the age groups as “age on the day”. For these galas swimmers can chose to swim or not; we will not necessarily have a full team of swimmers and individuals can enter as many events for which they have obtained the required entry level. Information about these galas will either be emailed or on the notice board.
